Elie Weiss started his professional career in 1991 trading over the counter derivative securities for Merrill Lynch and Bankers Trust in New York and London. In 1994 Elie co-founded Orion Capital Management in London, a hedge fund dedicated to proprietary trading of international securities markets.
Elie returned to his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio and joined Stark Enterprises in 1997 where he began his career as a real estate developer. While at Stark Enterprises, Elie became Executive Vice President of Development with responsibilities for all aspects of development from site aggregation, entitlement, design, city process, finance, leasing, construction and property management. Projects developed under Elie’s direction included pad restaurants at Tiedeman & I-480, Cinemark Valley View and The Strip. With Stark Enterprises, Elie oversaw the development of over 1,000,000 square feet of mixed-use properties. Elie was the lead developer for Eton Chagrin Boulevard and played a leading role in the development of Crocker Park.
In 2007, Elie added restaurant development and operations to his responsibilities and developed two successful restaurant concepts: Province, located in Chicago & Phoenix; and Paladar Latin Kitchen and Rum Bar in Cleveland, Miami, Maryland, and Northern Virginia.
Today, Elie is President of Real Estate for American Greetings, leading the management of the Weiss Family real estate portfolio, which includes the development of American Greetings’ new world headquarters at Crocker Park; and investment in (and development of) office, multifamily residential, and retail income producing properties throughout the United States, England, Australia and Israel.
Since 2007, Elie has also served on the Board of Trustees for BRT Realty Trust, including serving on its Audit Committee and Corporate Governance Committee. BRT’s primary business is the management of all forms of real estate assets from loans to direct ownership of physical property.
